UFC APEX – UFC welterweight Neil Magny’s record may eclipse his opponent, Michael Morales, on paper but he’s still taking him as serious as ever for UFC Vegas 96 on Saturday night.
“Excitement. Pure excitement. Soon as I saw the name it was cool let’s do it,” Magny told reporters on Wednesday.
“I know a lot of people saying this is a test for Mike Morales the fact that he’s fighting a veteran. It’s a test for me as well. It’s a very difficult fight, it’s a very difficult matchup, he’s undefeated for a reason.”
Magny (29-11) has made a career out of taking on up-and-comers and upsetting their plans.
“He’s undefeated UFC for a reason. When I saw that matchup I was alright cool. The bar just got set pretty high and I’m going to do my best to go out there and just knock it out the park,” he said.
Morales might be the rising star in this fight, but Magny doesn’t see that as a bad thing for him. He’s made a run out of making the new guys look silly at times.
“Every fight should be more difficult as far as like the preparation that kind of thing, but even the mental part of it as well. Some of the questions you get asked all week where it’s like, ‘Oh another up-and-comer’,” he said.
“It’ll be easier for me to get complacent and say ‘Oh yeah just another up-and-comer.’ Each individual opponent is different. Have to take it very seriously not take a moment for granted.”
