Featherweights Jack Jenkins and Herbert Burns kicked off the televised prelims at UFC 305 on Saturday.

Burns had his back to the wall coming into the fight, having lost three straight. Jenkins meanwhile was 2-1 under the UFC banner, entering off a loss to Chepe Mariscal.

The fight began with Burns immediately landing a pair of kicks. Both fighters exchanged jabs. Jenkins was able to find a little more success with his jab as he snapped his opponent’s head back. Jack began to let his hands go a little more before eating a hard leg kick. Jenkins landed a big hook nearly 90 seconds into the round. A few seconds later a hook to the body from Jenkins backed up his opponent.

Jack began to uncork his hands a bit more as Herbert moved to his back foot. Jenkins would touch to the body of Burns and then go upstairs. Burns went to the ground less than two minutes into the round. When he returned to his feet Jenkins began an all-out assault of boxing combos on Burns. With 70 seconds left in the round, Herbert was able to land a crucial double leg takedown in the center of the octagon to stop the onslaught. Burns didn’t do anything of note but recover with the takedown, as he waited out the remainder of the round on top.

To begin the second round Burns threw out a couple of leg kicks and desperately shot for a takedown. Jenkins was able to defend the takedown and went back to work with his jab. Burns tried to find his rhythm with his jab too, before securing a low takedown about a minute into the round. Burns was able to briefly move to an arm triangle attempt before jumping on the heel hook as Jack started return to his feet. Jenkins was able to escape and eventually a defeated Herbert had to return to his feet again.

Mere moments later and Burns was stuffed on another desperate takedown attempt. Jenkins was able to have his turn on top landing a little ground and pound. With nearly 90 seconds left in the round Jenkins threw another textbook boxing combination that just melted Burns against the fence. Jenkins again disengaged once the fight hit the ground and forced Burns to his feet repeatedly. Herbert was limping from the leg kick damage to his calf at this point and with seconds left in the round was desperately shooting over and over to the jeers of the crowd.

At the beginning of the final round Herbert got clipped again with a shot, went for a takedown that he abandoned and landed a knee to the cup of Jenkins. After a brief pause, the action was back underway. Jenkins went to the calf again before blinding Burns with a jab. Jack finished the combo with a clubbing right hand that practically face planted Herbert.  Jack would pour on vicious ground and pound for a few seconds before backing off to let Herbert up. Burns attempted to return to his feet before falling back as the ref stopped the fight.

In his post-fight interview Jack Jenkins called out Gavin Tucker to fight November 2nd in Edmonton, Canada.

Official Result: Jack Jenkins def. Herbert Burns by TKO, Round 3, 0:48
