UFC APEX – Stepping into her first UFC main event is strawweight Virna Jandiroba who faces Amanda Lemos at UFC Vegas 94 on Saturday night.
“I’m very happy to be here and to have the opportunity for the UFC to be trusting a main event in my hands,” Jandiroba told reporters through a translator on Thursday.
“Extremely happy.”
Jandiroba (20-3) the former Invicta FC champion admitted it’s been different coming into a UFC main event with the extra responsibilities tied to the spot.
“It’s a little different, but you know, end of the day it’s a fight. I have to keep myself sober and try to enjoy as much as I can, but keeping my foot on the ground, and knowing I have more work to do on Saturday,” she said.
She faces Lemos in the main event. The fellow Brazilian brings a strong skillset for Jandiroba to test herself with.
“Amanda is a very physical fighter. She’s a great striker. She’s a better striker above everything. When I got the call it was fantastic. Not just because of the opponent because I think it’s going to be a great fight,” she said.
“But because she’s ahead of me on the rankings so a win would push me forward towards the title. This is going to be a battle.”
