With champ Christian Lee on an extended hiatus following the death of sister Victoria in December 2022— but expected to return to competition at some point— an interim lightweight title was on the line in the main event of Friday’s ONE Fight Night 23.
That main event was taking the place of Jackie Buntan versus former two-time Glory Women’s Super Bantamweight Champion Anissa Meksen, who were to have thrown down for the inaugural ONE women’s strawweight kickboxing championship. A Buntan injury put the kibosh on that, however, and instead, it was Ok Rae Yoon and Alibeg Rasulov vying for the interim lightweight title in MMA.
The hiccups didn’t stop there, however, as Rasulov failed multiple hydration tests ahead of the fight, leaving him ineligible to win gold at the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium on Friday (Saturday local time).
Earlier in the night, heavyweight Oumar Kane, perhaps better known as “Reug Reug,” was set to make his kickboxing debut – while already having a November title shot in MMA lined up, against champ Anatoly Malykhin.
