Jean Silva Details Fainting Incident, Injury That Led To Weight Miss

Las Vegas – UFC featherweight Jean Silva may have missed weight for his bout with Charles Jourdain at UFC 303 on Saturday night, but he came out with a big victory at the end of the night.

“I did have a little bit of an issue before while I was in process of cutting weight, and there was an injury there,” Silva told reporters including Cageside Press through a translator at his post-fight scrum.

“The shoulder was not ok so we needed to plan to not get hit in the shoulder. We tried to avoid contact there.”

Silva (13-2) missed weight on Friday morning putting the fight in jeopardy, but also making him ineligible for a bonus. The victory was still sweet, but the weight miss is still a talking point among fans and fighters alike.

“I had a little minor incident as I was cutting weight. It was just a pound over at that point. I fainted. I just wasn’t feeling good, fainted, fell down the stairs. At that point we got the team, we had to sit down with coaches with managers and everybody else, we got a doctor to take a look at us,” Silva said.

“They actually came to me and said well you might have to not continue with this fight. We had to readjust some things.”

So what’s next for Silva with his 13th career victory secured?

“I’ve made some calculations here. There are about 81 dudes to beat up in this division. If I continue to beat them at 24k I think I could be really rich if I beat them all,” he said.
