Daniel Rodriguez lost a unanimous decision to Kelvin Gastelum in a “surprise” welterweight-turned-last-second-middleweight bout.

Rodriguez is now on a three-fight skid. It’s unfortunate as Rodriguez shouldn’t have had to compete at this weight in the first place, with the fight bumped up due to Gastelum’s weight struggles, reportedly due to a “bad camp.” Rodriguez was temporarily matched up with Santiago Ponzinibbio last year, before it was cancelled thanks to a failed drug test. It’d be a good fight to revisit, but Ponzinibbio was recently matched up with fellow UFC vet, Muslim Salikhov, to fight on July 13th. All three fighters share a common opponent in, Li Jingliang.  Both Ponzinibbio and Salikhov are 1-2 in their last three fights, so giving the winner of that fight D-Rod, would make the most sense.
