Former UFC darling and BKFC vet Paige VanZant has announced her next combat sports endeavor… if you consider Power Slap a sport.
On Saturday, during the UFC Saudi Arabia preliminary card broadcast on ESPN, it was announced that VanZant would compete at Power Slap 8 on June 28, 2024.
“12 Gauge” also released a video clip confirming the news, alongside husband Austin Vanderford, who said pretty much what we’re all thinking in the face of this news: “you’re a nut.”
The Slap Fighting league promoted by UFC President and CEO Dana White has yet to achieve the success of its MMA counterpart, largely due to the fact that it’s not much of a sport. Competitors are not allowed to defend themselves, instead standing in place and absorbing open-face palm strikes to the head.
VanZant is easily the biggest name to sign on with the fledgling promotion. Most recently, she was seen fighting to a draw under the Misfits Boxing banner, against champ Elle Brooke. A rematch had been discussed, but nothing on that front has materialized to date.
In MMA, VanZant compiled an 8-5 record, competing for Invicta FC and the UFC. She holds wins over Bec Rawlings and Felice Herrig, among others. Since parting ways with the company, VanZant has gone 0-2 under the BKFC banner. She made headlines, meanwhile, after revealing that she made more money on adult content site OnlyFans in a day than she had in her UFC career.
Power Slap 8 takes place at the Fontainebleau Las Vegas Resort and Casino on June 28, 2024, airing on video hosting platform Rumble.
