A pair of ranked welterweights will headline the UFC’s September 7, 2024 Fight Night event.
The five-round fight will see one-time welterweight title challenger Gilbert Burns (22-7) face off with Philadelphia’s Sean Brady (16-1).
News of the pairing was first reported by Magic MMA Bets, with MMA Junkie first to report the bout’s planned date and main event status. Brady also confirmed the booking on social media.
Burns, who will be 38-years old by the time the fight rolls around, is coming off back-to-back losses for the first time in his professional career. Most recently, he was knocked out by surging Australian talent Jack Della Maddalena. Prior to that bout at UFC 299, Burns dropped a decision to the man fighting for welterweight gold next, Belal Muhammad.
At 31, Brady will by far be the younger fighter, though he’ll be entering his first five-round fight under the UFC banner. A former CFFC champ, Brady has been past the third round just once. Last time out, he picked up a submission win against Ultimate Fighter winner Kelvin Gastelum, bouncing back from his first career loss against Muhammad, a defeat he holds in common with Gilbert Burns.
Burns is currently ranked #6, and Sean Brady #8 in the UFC’s 170 pound division. No venue, location, or broadcast plan has been announced for the promotion’s September 7, 2024 Fight Night card. One other fight has been reported for the event, a featherweight contest that will see Calvin Kattar take on Kyle Nelson.
