Darren Till has been booked to make his pro boxing debut on a massive stage.
Till will be competing against Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. (53-6-1) on the Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson card at AT&T stadium in Arlington Texas on July 20th. The bout is scheduled for six rounds at cruiserweight (190lbs).
Ariel Helwani was the first to break the news on Wednesday morning.
The news comes over a year since Darren requested to be released by the UFC back in March of 2023. With Till teasing on social media writing, “I’m not going anywhere, got big plans to execute & I’ll be back.”
Till, who has struggled mightily since challenging Tyron Woodley for the belt back in 2018, lost four of his following five fights. The 31-year-old has not fought in the UFC since being finished by the current UFC middleweight champion, Dricus Du Plessis, in December of 2022.
“I’m very happy to be a part of this event.” Till said in a press release per ESPN’s Andreas Hale, “Paul vs. Tyson is going to be one of the biggest events of our generation, and to make my professional boxing debut on it is brilliant.”
Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. is a former WBC middleweight champion and the son of a legend in boxing, Julio Cesar Chavez. Chavez Jr. notably competed against the former UFC middleweight champion Anderson Silva in 2021, losing a split decision. The 38-year-old has not fought since December of 2021 when he defeated David Zegarra via unanimous decision.
“I’m excited to return to the ring after some time off, and I’m motivated and eager to reestablish myself as one of the greats” Chavez Jr. stated.
With the addition of this fight, there are now 4 announced boxing matches for the Paul vs. Tyson card:
- Jake Paul vs. Mike Tyson
- Katie Taylor vs. Amanda Serrano
- Ashton Sylve vs. Floyd Schofield
- Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. vs. Darren Till
