Former UFC strawweight champions Rose Namajunas and Maycee Barber are on target to headline a UFC Fight Night event on July 13 in Denver, CO.
First reported by Ariel Helwani.
Namajunas (12-6) is currently ranked #6 and is coming off a decision victory over Amanda Ribas in March. The former champion is 3-2 in her last five bouts. After taking a split-decision victory over Weili Zhang at UFC 268 she lost the title to Carla Esparza at UFC 274.
The UFC veteran holds victories over names such as Joanna Jedrzejczyk, Jessica Andrade, Zhang, and Michelle Waterson-Gomez.
This may be Namajunas’s last chance at UFC gold with a win over the up-and-coming Barber. The future UFC hall of famer will look to score a shot at the title with a win in Denver.
Barber (14-2) comes in at #4 in the rankings, and a victory over a former champion could mean her ticket to a title shot. Riding a 6-fight win streak with victories over Katlyn Cerminara, Amanda Ribas, Andrea Lee, and Miranda Maverick to name a few she certainly has the resume for a title shot with a win.
Other bouts announced for the UFC event in July 13 include:
- Luana Santos vs. Mariya Agapova
- Viviane Araujo vs. Jasmine Jasudavicius
