The UFC’s flyweight championship will be on the line this Saturday at UFC 301, as Alexandre Pantoja looks to defend his belt at home in Brazil against rising Australian talent Steve Erceg.
Admittedly, Erceg’s name wasn’t at the top of the list for a title shot, and certainly not at the top of the division— he’s ranked #10 in the UFC’s 125lb weight class after all. However, with Pantoja holding wins over a few contenders and others being unavailable due to injury or coming off losses, it was Erceg getting the nod over the likes of Muhammad Mokaev, whose last performance lacked the sort of emphatic finish that Erceg himself had found.
And so, after just three fights in the company, it was Steve Erceg looking to claim gold, the sort of pace few before him had achieved. Alexandre Pantoja, meanwhile, came into UFC 301 looking to make the second defense of his flyweight title after getting past Brandon Royval late last year.
Weigh-ins for UFC 301 take place Friday, May 3, 2024 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Full results can be found below.
