A pair of featherweights on two-fight win streaks collided on Saturday’s UFC Atlantic City main card, with Bill Algeo taking on Canadian Kyle Nelson.
While Algeo opted to start the fight with some technical work including well-placed kicks, Nelson turned things into a brawl. Algeo appeared to slip, and Nelson, a.k.a. “The Monster,” began swinging wild. Algeo found himself up against the fence, but he was able to tie things up for a bit.
Back at center, Algeo continued with his kicks, while Nelson appeared to fire a spinning back leg kick, not exactly the most effective technique. More effective was the power in Nelson’s hands, keeping Algeo on his toes.
Moments later, that power connected. Nelson landed a massive right hand, and Algeo was rocked, and on skates. “The Monster” attacked just like one, charging forward and taking some big swings, hooks and uppercuts. Many missed, but enough got through to keep Algeo from fully recovering. Algeo was backpedaling, and Nelson connected a few more times while charging forward before the ref waved things off. Algeo didn’t like it, the crowd didn’t like it, but Kyle Nelson had the win either way.

As for what’s next, “Nate Landwehr had a good knockout earlier, I think me and him match up really well,” Nelson said in his post-fight interview with Michael Bisping.
