Former UFC stars Jorge Masvidal and Nate Diaz are set to run in back — in boxing.
With a rematch between the two, who competed in 2019 for the UFC’s inaugural “BMF” championship, long-rumored, it seemed like only a matter of time before that smoke led to fire. The confirmation arrived Wednesday, with a press release announcing the pair would headline the the Kia Forum in Los Angeles on June 1, in a Pay-Per-View event entitled “Last Man Standing.”
The event is set to air via Fanmio PPV, with early bird pricing set at $49.99 USD until April 12.
The card will be produced in conjunction with Diaz’s Real Fight Inc. and Masvidal’s Gamebred Boxing Promotions. Masvidal vs. Diaz will be contested at 175lbs for a planned 10 rounds.
“When we started our journey into boxing, we wanted to bring only the most entertaining fights together that would help transcend the world of combat sports,” said Solomon Engel, Fanmio CEO. “Being able to put together the Diaz vs. Masvidal rematch in the boxing ring is in line with that vision. These guys are the original and true BMFs, have continuously sold out arenas and sold millions of pay-per-views. June 1 gives each the opportunity to write a new chapter in their storied history, settle their score and show the world who will be the last man standing.”
Masvidal, who defeated Diaz via a doctor’s stoppage TKO following the third round of their BMF title fight, has not won since. He would lose his last four UFC fights including back-to-back title shots against Kamaru Usman. “Gamebred” retired from MMA last April.
Diaz has fared slightly better, defeating Tony Ferguson in his final UFC outing after waiting out the UFC in a contract dispute. Since then, he came up short against a significantly larger Jake Paul in one of the Youtube creator’s boxing spectacles.
