While it looked like the Raul Rosas Jr. vs. Ricky Turcios fight from UFC Mexico City this past weekend, cancelled at the eleventh hour, had been saved, it turns out it’s not to be.
Despite UFC CEO Dana White confirming the fight for UFC Vegas 87, the bantamweight match-up has been removed from this Saturday’s Fight Night card. MMA Junkie was first to report news of the development, though Turcios had also questioned whether the fight would happen on social media.
In a since-deleted Instagram Story, he called the new date “fake news.” Had it gone forward, it would have meant both fighters undergoing the weight cut to 135lbs for a second time in seven days.
It remains to be seen whether the fight will be rebooked for a third date. UFC Mexico City’s main card was already underway when Rosas Jr. vs. Turcios was announced as being off, due to Raul Rosas Jr. falling ill earlier in the day.
As for UFC Vegas 87, it takes place at the Apex this Saturday headlined by heavyweights Jairzinho Rozenstruik and Shamil Gaziev. The following bouts remain attached to the Fight Night event:
