Fresh off losing the UFC middleweight title at UFC 297 Sean Strickland took to social media with video of a possible head butt during his fight against Dricus Du Plessis on Saturday.
We all know I won… The only reason why it wasn’t one sided for 5 rounds is the headbutt took my eye….. Wasn’t touched till the blood took my vision.. pic.twitter.com/CLvcURLzWT

“We all know I won…The only reason why it wasn’t one sided for 5 rounds is the headbutt took my eye…..Wasn’t touched till the blood took my vision…” Strickland wrote on X.
On Instagram he posted the same video, but with slightly different caption.
“I didn’t take the coward’s way out and tell the doctor I couldn’t see and got a no contest….The only reason why you took a round from me is because I couldn’t see…I won that fight, the world knows I won that fight……The belt they gave you will never make you a champion, enjoy….
They had to stitch through muscle to get it closed.
Thank you to everyone your support has really kept my head up high through all this, grateful forever.”
Du Plessis was asked about a possible head butt at his post-fight scrum, but he claimed he wasn’t aware it.
“No I can’t say that I did. It’s the first I’m hearing of it. No I didn’t feel a head butt. Did he say I head butted him? No I can’t remember any head butt,” Strickland told reporters including Cageside Press.
Du Plessis, while not aware of any head butt, seemed to become worried that people thought he lost the fight.
“Just for the record is there some people that think I lost the fight,” he asked.
When told that UFC CEO Dana White had it for Strickland his response was quick.
“Dana said it? Well bullsh*t?”
