Toronto – UFC middleweight Marc-Andre Barriault sees Chris Curtis as his ticket to the top 15, but he’ll need a big showing at UFC 297 on Saturday night to do it.
“I’m always looking to get a good statement and put a big stamp on this fight and leave no doubts, but I feel I just need to be myself. I worked hard for this fight, I’m ready, wherever the fight goes I’m ready to fight hard,” Barriault told Cageside Press on Wednesday.
“I know I’m going to pick up the pace and I’m going to pick up a huge victory on Saturday night.”
“This is the type of fight that I want specially at this stage in my career. I don’t want to pick and choose my fights, but this one is like candy for me. I think we have kind of the same style. Pressure fighter, we’re both tough, so that’s going to be fireworks for sure,” Barriault told reporters.
With the middleweight crown on the line in the main event guys like Barriault will be keeping an close eye on the fight. For Barriault an impressive finish of Curtis could put him on the path towards the title, but he needs to get into the top 15 first.
“I’ve been battle tested before, I’ve fought pretty good guys before, I feel like I belong in the top 15,” he said.
“I’ve worked hard and I’m going to fight my way to this opportunity for sure.”
