Las Vegas, NV – UFC bantamweight Mario Bautista takes on Ricky Simon at UFC Vegas 84 on Saturday night in a top 15 matchup that the former has been waiting for.
“I was super excited. I was mainly excited that I finally got a top 15 and then who better (than) Ricky Simon,” Bautista told reporters including Cageside Press on Wednesday.
“Tough opponent. It’s really going to test me. It’s going to prove whether I belong there or not, and stylistically I think it’s going to be a fun fight for both of us and the fans. I’m ready to find out.”
Bautista gave his opponent his due respect knowing Simon is a very tough opponent who’s been able to hang with the top guys at 135.
“Mainly how long he’s been in the UFC and in the rankings. That’s something very hard to do and he’s held his spot there. If you get a win over Ricky you’re definitely heading in the right direction. You’re definitely pretty good,” Bautista said.
With the fight being on the main card Bautista know he and his Simon will have to put on a good show for the fans.
“I think they like my style. I come to fight every time. With this matchup I think it’s going to be a fun fight so they want to make sure everyone is tuning in for this one,” he said.
