UFC 295 takes over Madison Square Garden in New York City this Saturday night, with a pair of title fights topping the marquee. Just not, as is by now well known, the title fight fans had hoped for.
With an injury to Jon Jones, his fight with Stipe Miocic is off the card. Rather than rebook Miocic, considered by many the greatest heavyweight of all time, against Jones, considered by just as many the greatest fighter of all time, the UFC opted to push the fight back indefinitely — and have instead booked an interim title bout between Russian Sergei Pavlovich and England’s Tom Aspinall.
That, however, will not be Saturday’s main event. Instead, Jiri Prochazka, who was forced to vacate the UFC light heavyweight championship due to injury, returns to action against Alex Pereiera, the former UFC middleweight champion. On the line, Prochazka’s old title, which was subsequently vacated by the injured Jamahal Hill.
Let’s just hope that whoever wins, they stay healthy.
Also on the UFC 295 card, the popular Matt Frevola, former UFC women’s strawweight champ Jessica Andrade, rising star Loopy Godinez, continuing her trend of staying busy, and more.
