This coming Saturday at UFC Vegas 80, Alex Morono will look to regain some momentum with a win over Joaquin Buckley in the welterweight division.
Prior to his last fight, Morono (23-8, 1NC) faced Santiago Ponzinibio on short notice, and went into that fight riding a four fight win streak. Things didn’t go to plan for him that night, but he bounced back five months later with an impressive second round victory over veteran Tim Means.
This time out, he will be facing powerful striker Joaquin Buckley, who is also looking to create some momentum in just his second welterweight fight.
After his loss to Khaos Williams back in 2020, “The Great White” went on a span of five fights that were at the Apex. He then competed in front of a crowd on three occasions, and will now once again return to the Apex.
Talking about his experiences fighting at the Apex at the UFC Vegas 80 media day, he said “Honestly this one has been a little more routine than normal, I’m back at the Apex during COVID I fought here five times in a row, then got to hit the road and that was fun, it made me realise how much I like a crowd.
“This is just a cool Martial Arts experience, the whole idea of the Apex to build a big warehouse to host fights in is really cool and I’m happy to be back. I’ve trained my butt off for this one, not a short notice fight so I had a full camp which is great, I’m ready to rock and roll.”
Morono, who once had a goal of making it to twenty fights in his career, has modified that just a little. “I used to have a goal of twenty fights, but now I have a goal of twenty wins. So I’ve got some work to do.”
