Former UFC women’s strawweight champion Jessica Andrade continues to stay busy, and has booked yet another fight, this time at UFC 295 in New York.
Andrade (24-12) will face Mackenzie Dern (13-3) at the PPV event, set to take place on November 11, 2023 at Madison Square Garden.
News of the fight came to light during Saturday’s UFC 292 broadcast, with a lower third graphic accompanying a shot of Dern revealing the booking. The bout will be Andrade’s fifth of 2023.
They have not all gone well. While Andrade kicked off the year with a decision win against “Lucky” Lauren Murphy at flyweight, she’s now dropped three straight, against Erin Blanchfield, Yan Xiaonan, and Tatiana Suarez. That all three are now in the hunt for title shots in their respective divisions — Blanchfield at flyweight, Yan and Suarez at strawweight — probably hasn’t done much to buoy the former champ’s spirits.
Dern, one of the top submission artists in the sport, is coming off a win over Angela Hill, and has posted a 2-2 record across her last four fights.
Andrade is currently ranked #6, and Dern #8 in the UFC women’s strawweight division.
UFC 295 is set to be headlined by a heavyweight title fight between champ Jon Jones and former champion Stipe Miocic. The following match-ups have been reported for the New York City card:
- Jon Jones (c) vs. Stipe Miocic — for the UFC heavyweight championship
- Derek Brunson vs. Roman Dolidze
- Joshua Van vs. Kevin Borjas
- Mackenzie Dern vs. Jessica Andrade
