Nashville, TN – It’s all positive for UFC bantamweight Rob Font as he’s taken a short-notice bout in the main event of UFC Nashville this Saturday night against Cory Sandhagen.
“Been enjoying Nashville. We got to hang it out on the farm when we first got here, and enjoyed the wilderness and the outside,” Font told reporters on Wednesday.
“Just the land. It was pretty cool.”
Originally set to face Song Yadong at UFC 292 in Boston, when Sandhagen’s opponent Umar Nurmagomedov fell out of the fight, Font pounced at the opportunity to be on the main event with another top 135er.
“Obviously we love fighting in Boston, and it’s convenient, it’s easy. I’ve never been in Nashville. We got another main event. It’s a big opportunity, there’s a lot of upside to this fight, so I’m not complaining,” he said.
In Sandhagen he faces a man with quite the resume holding wins over Marlon Moraes, Frankie Edgar, and Chito Vera.
“He’s been killing it. He’s fought all the best guys out there. There’s going to be ups and down when you’re fighting the best guys,” he said.
“We’re kind of similar in that aspect. He’s technical, he’s smooth, he’s entertaining. UFC knows what they’re doing. They put me and Cory in there it’s going to be fight of the night for sure.”
Everything taken into account it’s about the potential reward should he be able to get past Sandhagen on Saturday night.
“That’s the plan,” Font said.
“Go out there, put on a show, get a finish, and head back to Boston and get that title shot.”
