Salt Lake City, UT — Welterweight Uros Medic is 30 this year, and it just so happens it’s the 30th Anniversary of the UFC this year as well — something Medic pointed out following his win over Matthew Semelsberger at UFC 291 on Saturday.
So it might seem fated that Medic take part in the promotion’s 30th anniversary show, which will roll around this November.
“I would like to. When is it, the 30th Anniversary?” Medic (9-1) replied when asked by Cageside Press about the possibility. As it stands, that card will probably be UFC 295 in New York City.
“I would like to, why not? Why not? If I’m healthy, I’m ready, let’s go,” Medic exclaimed.
Mind you, there’s another card the Serbian fighter would like to be on. “I would hope to fight in Paris, that’s what I wanted, because then I can to go Europe and see my family, and see everybody. I do need UFC to help me with my immigration so I can sort that out. I’m good here, but for some reason I’m still waiting on the travel documentation to be sorted out, and immigration system is not the fastest system working around here. And I understand they’ve got a lot of work to do, so I’m patient, but again at some point, I’m like, what’s going on? Where do we begin, and where do it end?”
Hopefully, that can get sorted out for “The Doctor.” The 30-year old Contender Series vet trains in the U.S., most recently with Ramsey Nijem. And he’s been very happy with the time spent in Salt Lake City recently, even before the win.
Medic was upbeat period after Saturday’s big performance.
“I had a lot happen in the past year and a few months. I’m happy. I worked really hard. I knew that things had to come together at some point,” he stated. “I’m doing the right thing day in and day out. It has to come together. And if it doesn’t, it’s still fine, I don’t get disappointed because I’m doing the right thing for me, for my family, for the team. So yeah, I’m happy, that’s all I can say.”
Among the issues Medic had to overcome was an injury that led to surgery on his hand. “It’s an old injury. I was dragging it, and I knew it was going to have to get surgery at some point. I had it when I fought [Jalin] Turner, like two weeks out I couldn’t really punch with my left hand. It heals up, gets better. After that I fought again, I won, then I booked another fight, and four weeks out of the fight, I hurt it probably the worst time ever. And I hurt it many times.”
Eventually, with the injured joint getting worse and worse and alternative treatments failing, Medic opted for surgery. “Now it’s good. It’s not the same as it was, but it’s good. This hand, I’ve had too many injuries on it, but it’s still bringing it home.”
