London, UK – UFC featherweight Lerone Murphy put on a dominating performance at UFC London where he took the victory over Joshua Culibao, but the undefeated hometown fighter felt he was close to finishing the fight at UFC London.
“Super surprised, but he’s a tough cookie man. When you’re fighting in the UFC at the top level them guys are just outside of the top 15, hard to get them out of there, the liver kick was flush. The elbows from the top, even the d’arce choke was deep, and he survived man,” Murphy told reporters including Cageside Press at his post-fight scrum on Saturday night.
“Credit to him. He’s a warrior.”
There was no lack of credit given to Culibao who survived some intense attacks from Murphy, and showed no quit on enemy territory.
“He did want to be there, and that’s what I loved. In the second round I was thinking I’m warm now let’s go,” he said.
Continuing on undefeated Murphy knows he’s underrated, but explains that in the game today fighters who talk trash seem to get more attention. That just happens to not be his thing.
“It’s just that I’m not a big talker. That’s it. If you’re a big talker out here you get noticed, so I’m trying to do my fights and the skills, but I need to be finishing fights really,” he said.
“But it is what it is. I’m the top level in the world, I’m still 13-0, and that’s 6 fights in the UFC. Six fights at the top level, still undefeated, and I’m heading to the top.”
