The saga continues with former UFC champion now, not only PFL heavyweight fighter, but professional boxer Francis Ngannou as he claims UFC president Dana White tried to take the bout against Tyson Fury away from him.
Ngannou spoke to MMA on Sirius on their radio show.
“I think (Dana) did try to take the fight away from me, and Dana did send out the contract (Jones vs. Fury). He sent out the contract, which I think was very embarrassing because that contract was rejected, and he signed mine for the GIMIK Fight Promotions,” Francis said.
GIMIK Fight Promotions is Ngannou’s promotion company which represents the heavyweight fighter.
White sending Fury a contract to fight Jones in the octagon puzzled Ngannou since he asked for a fight with Fury.
“They were ready to do Jon Jones and Tyson Fury in MMA — why couldn’t they do Ngannou and Fury in boxing? I don’t know,” he said.
Fury vs. Ngannou was announced on Tuesday which took some by surprise, but there had been whispers of a possible announcement coming soon. The bout will take place on Oct. 28 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
Fury’s title’s will not be on the line, but the bout will be a professional fight per MMAFighting.
