Las Vegas, NV – There is nobody in the UFC quite like middleweight Sean Strickland and when he grabs the mic you definitely know it as he once again had his fun with the media on Wednesday as he gets set to fight at UFC Vegas 76.
Strickland (26-5) draws Abus Magomedov who gets his first UFC main event bout in his second fight with the promotion, and without a ranking. Criticism from fans and fighters alike as people have questioned why the fight was made with Strickland who is ranked #7 as of this post.
“I had no idea who the f*ck he was,” Strickland told reporters at his media day scrum.
“I’ve been hounding the UFC to fight. I had an offer to do a 205, but Mick (Maynard) didn’t want me to f*ck up the rankings because there’s a lot of 205-ers I f*ck up.”
Not that there weren’t middleweight fights offered to Strickland, but after he accepted the offer, the opponents declined to take the fight.
“He (Mick) offered me a couple ranked guys, I said yes to, they said no. I either had a choice. I wait f*cking eight months or I f*cking fight. The money was right and here we are,” Strickland said.
“I mean we all fight for money. If the dollar is right I will f*cking do it man. So we came to good terms, good pay, and here we are fighting Abu.”
Strickland declined to name the ranked fighters who turned him down, but that was about the most courtesy they would get. Strickland instead took aim at some of the potential candidates for the next title fight at 185.
“I mean I would like to fight f*cking Izzy (Adesanya) you know. I think (Robert) Whittaker is going to f*ck Dricus (Du Plessi) up. I think we all know that. It’s kind of embarrassing that Dricus gets, you know, a potential shot,” he said.
“I deserve a shot you guys. Let’s make it happen. Worst case scenario me and Izzy going to go fight in the f*cking parking lot because that sh*t needs to happen.”
