With a women’s flyweight title fight set to transpire this September with Alexa Grasso and Valentina Shevchenko running it back, top contender Erin Blanchfield has her next date set.
Blanchfield (11-1) will face ex-title challenger Taila Santos (19-2) at UFC Singapore on August 26, 2023, at the famed Singapore Indoor Stadium.
Freak MMA was first to report the news, with Blanchfield later confirming the booking on her own social media accounts.
A former Invicta FC standout, Blanchfield sits on an eight-fight win streak that includes victories in her first five trips to the octagon. Most recently, “Cold Blooded” Blanchfield stopped former UFC women’s strawweight champ and flyweight title challenger Jessica Andrade.
Santos has not competed since losing a split decision against then-champ Shevchenko at UFC 275 in Singapore in 2022. She’ll be returning to the scene of the crime, so to speak, looking to claim another shot at gold following a fight many saw her winning — or at least saw her pushing Valentina Shevchenko harder than anyone prior.
Santos had been booked to face Blanchfield back in February, only to withdraw and be replaced by Andrade. The Brazilian is currently ranked #3 in the UFC women’s flyweight division, tied with Blanchfield herself.
UFC Singapore is set to be headlined by a featherweight match-up featuring ex-champ Max Holloway and two-time title challenger The Korean Zombie. The following fights have been reported for the card thus far:
- Max Holloway vs. The Korean Zombie
- Anthony Smith vs. Ryan Spann
- Chidi Njokuani vs. Michał Oleksiejczuk
- Liang Na vs. JJ Aldrich
- Rinya Nakamura vs. Fernie Garcia
- Waldo Cortes-Acosta vs. Łukasz Brzeski
- Taila Santos vs. Erin Blanchfield
