Jacksonville, FL – Coming off the biggest win of his career UFC featherweight Ilia Topuria stated his case for a title shot at his post-fight scrum following his win over Josh Emmett at UFC Jacksonville on Saturday night.
“Busy, not busy, I don’t know is he’s (Alexander Volkanovski) is busy. I’m the next guy the line. I can wait. One of the best skills I have is the patience. If they offer me to fight with Max Holloway in Spain, let’s do it,” Topuria told reporters.
“If not I’m going to wait for my title shot.”
The featherweight title is up for grabs at UFC 290 where champion Volkanovski and interim champion Yair Rodriguez will look to unify the titles in the main event. That fight in early July may force Topuria to wait until 2024 for a shot at the belt if he doesn’t get the Holloway fight.
Keep in mind that Holloway is scheduled to face The Korean Zombie in Singapore in late August which means we likely won’t see Ilia Topuria in the octagon again until late this year or early 2024.
“I showed it tonight that no one can match my level of skill inside the cage. I think everyone agree with me. I know that I can finish anyone in this division. Just was tough tonight, but I beat him pretty easy, and it (won’t) be different with Alex,” Topuria said.
“I’m going to knock him out in the first round, second round, if not I’m going to dominate him for five rounds, no problem.”
