Rodolfo Vieira Won’t Shoot For ‘A Thousand Takedowns’ Against Brundage

Las Vegas, NV – Coming off a loss where he shot for 20 takedowns and landed none UFC middleweight Rodolfo Vieira will look to mix it up more when he takes on Cody Brundage at UFC Vegas 72 on Saturday night.

“I’m not going to do like I did the last fight, like try a thousand takedowns, of course I want to use my jiu jitsu because it’s my background. It’s what I do best,” Vieira told reporters on Wednesday.

“My striking is very good as well and I’m very (confident) in all areas, but for sure I’m going to try to take him down and use my jiu jitsu. But I will be ready to strike as well.”

Grappling woes last fight out aside Vieira will still try to implement his jiu jitsu in the fight, but he’ll be comfortable striking with Brundage on Saturday.

“I think he’s a very good fighter. He does wrestling, jiu jitsu, he has a good striking, he kicks. I respect him a lot, and I took that fight very serious. I’m ready for everything,” he said.

Vieira was supposed to be back in the octagon against Brundage in November 2022, but suffered an injury that took him out of the fight. Vieira revealed what the issues was on Wednesday.

“I had an injury. I hurt my rib like in the last hard training. The last second, it was like 5 seconds left, and I hurt my rib. And I got very sad,” said Vieira.

“But now everything’s good and I have a fight with the same guy. Now I’m happy.”
