UFC Vegas 71 is down a fight following Friday morning’s official weigh-in.
The Las Vegas-based event, set to take place at the UFC Apex on Saturday, was supposed to include a women’s flyweight bout between Karine Silva and Priscila Cachoeira.
Silva hit the scales early during Friday morning’s official weigh-in, coming in at 126 pounds on the nose. Fellow Brazilian Cachoeira was four pounds heavy, however, weighing in much later in the two-hour window afforded to fighters. At 130lbs for a flyweight fight, she was not given additional time to shed the excess weight.
Now, the fight has been called off entirely. UFC officials announced the news shortly after the end of weigh-ins.
“Due to Priscila Cachoeira weighing in over the flyweight limit, her bout with Karine Silva has been canceled from tomorrow’s event,” the promotion announced in a brief update on their official website.
Cachoeira missed weight for her December 2021 fight with Canadian Gillian Robertson, which she went on to lose. She also saw a bout with Cortney Casey cancelled in 2020 due to a weight cut gone wrong.
UFC Vegas 71 has seen quite the eventful week, with its original co-main event between Song Yadong and Ricky Simon instead shifted to next week’s card, where it will serve as a five-round main event. A heavyweight tilt between ranked big men headlines this Saturday’s show, with Curtis Blaydes taking on Sergei Pavlovich.
With the loss of Priscila Cachoeira vs. Karine Silva, UFC Vegas 71 now moves forward with the following match-ups:
- Sergei Pavlovich vs. Curtis Blaydes
- Brad Tavares vs. Bruno Silva
- Bobby Green vs. Jared Gordon
- Iasmin Lucindo vs. Brogan Walker-Sanchez
- Jeremiah Wells vs. Matthew Semelsberger
- Ricky Glenn vs. Christos Giagos
