UFC Kansas City: Pedro Munhoz Really Happy With First Win Since 2021

Kansas City, MO – Longtime UFC veteran Pedro Munhoz came into his bout against Chris Gutierrez with nothing more than something to prove to himself, and he did just that on Saturday night at UFC Kansas City.

“That’s the only person that I want to prove to is myself. Not for the crowd. I respect them, I like the crowd, but in the end of the day it’s the battle between myself. It’s a good victory,” Munhoz told Cageside Press among other outlets at his post-fight scrum.

Munhoz (20-7) earned a decision victory over the rising Gutierrez on the main card of UFC Kansas City. The win was his first since 2021.

“Has been a couple of years that I trained very hard and fights that was just not going the way that I was (planning), but I’m very happy to walk out the octagon with a victory,” he said.

“Specially over Chris Gutierrez such a strong up-and-coming fighter. I feel really happy.”

The fight went all 15 minutes with both men landing on each other, but Munhoz game plan was enough to earn the win.

“I know that was going to be a war. He hasn’t lost his last 8 fights straight. I knew it was going to be a battle and it was exactly. That’s the reason that I’m here for and if you look back at all my fights they’re never easy fights. It’s kind of something that I’m used to,” he said.

Now that the fight is over Munhoz hasn’t really thought about what is next, but he’ll take a short time off before looking at what the plan will be for the rest of 2023.

“I haven’t thought about nothing yet. I was just focusing fighting Gutierrez. I knew it was going to be a tough fight. Now rest for a couple weeks and then see what’s the future is going to play out,” he said.
