San Antonio, TX – Every fighter has a fight or two that they want back because it didn’t go their way, and for UFC flyweight Maycee Barber the current champion is the fight she wants back.
“That was not like a shock to me. She’s a phenomenal fighter. I feel like Valentina (Shevchenko) started to get exposed a little bit when she fought (Talia) Santos. Everybody is beatable,” Barber told reporters on Wednesday.
“It was really cool to see a whole new champion in the division. I think it gives it a lot more excitement in the division.”
That being said she knows that it’s likely the former champion will get a shot at the current title holder, Alexa Grasso, before anybody else does.
“Valentina was such a dominant champion. Obviously I’m sure we’re expecting a rematch at some point between them, and then at some point I want my shot back against Alexa because I want to win that back,” she said.
“Whether she’s the champ or not, I want that back.”
First she has to get past Andrea Lee at UFC San Antonio on Saturday night which is never an easy task. Lee (13-6) has plenty of experience in the world of MMA, and even though she’s coming off a loss, she’s as dangerous as anyone else in the division.
“It’s a great matchup for me. I’m very excited to go out and showcase and I think that this is a fight where I go out and I finish. I’ve come off of three decision wins in my last three fights, and I’m like it’s about time I get a finish so that’s what I think about this fight,” Barber said.
“At the end of the day that’s what I love to do is finish people.”
