Bellator 292 goes down this Friday in San Jose, CA, and with it comes the launch of the Bellator Lightweight Grand Prix.
Eight fighters will work their way through the tournament, with not only the title — currently held by the undefeated Usman Nurmagomedov — but a shot at a million dollars on the line.
Topping the night at Bellator 292, which sees names like Michael “Venom” Page and former interim heavyweight champ Valentin Moldavsky in action, Nurmagomedov will put his belt on the line against former UFC and WEC lightweight champion Benson Henderson. In a second grand prix quarterfinal, meanwhile, Russia’s Alexander Shabliy faces off with Azerbaijan’s Tofiq Musayev.

There was just a wee bit of drama ahead of Bellator 292, as one fighter was heavy on his first attempt, and one fight changed to a new contract weight prior to weigh-ins.
A large weight discrepancy was noticed by many observers between Cass Bell and Josh Hill, for what was originally reported as a bantamweight bout, with Bell coming in at 145.2lbs. However, promotion officials have confirmed to Cageside Press that a new contract weight was agreed to prior to weigh-ins on Thursday.
Khalid Murtazaliev missed weight on his first attempt, hitting the scales at 186.8lbs. Given an extra hour to complete the cut, he successfully weighed in at 186lbs.
