Las Vegas, NV – UFC heavyweight contender Cyril Gane is ready to face the best Jon Jones in the main event of UFC 285 this Saturday night at T-Mobile Arena.
“We expected during the camp a beautiful Jon Jones. Fast like he was in the light heavyweight. Same skills, and stronger like a heavyweight, like a real heavyweight. We expected this, and we did all the camp on this,” Gane told reporters including Cageside Press on Wednesday.
Should Gane be victorious at UFC 285 it’s inevitable that the doubters and naysayers will come out of the woodwork to discredit the victory over who many consider to be the greatest of all time.
“Like I like to say I want the belt now no matter who is the guy, but now it’s Jon Jones so this is going to mean a lot for me because he’s the GOAT. Everybody knows that because of the stat of his career. Even if it’s not his division he’s an athlete. If tomorrow we will win it’s going to be something big for my career,” Gane said.
“Something big for my life for sure.”
The notion that people in France, Gane’s home, don’t know who Jon Jones made Gane laugh. Gane knows who he’s challenging, but so do the people in his home country.
“No, no, no, no, no, everybody knows who is Jon Jones even if the people are not too much to dip in the MMA. Not a lot of people of course, but if you touch, if you look, if you see a little bit what is MMA you know who is Jon Jones a little bit,” said Gane.
“And what he represents.”
Gane mentioned that he knew who Jones was even when he first started following and ultimately training in the sport.
Jones took to twitter to talk about Gane and his fight record talking about how his opponents had terrible defense, and the best wrestler he faced was Francis Ngannou.
“I started just a few years ago. This mean a lot. I’m jumping in the top high level in the UFC. This is not for nothing. How I can say for him is just to stay focused. Stay focused. He like to say I don’t have good striking, but truly I think (I) have high level striking. I’m aware about his wrestling game. Me? I’m aware. I’m really aware about that and I’m going to be focused on that,” said Gane.
If Gane is successful on Saturday night it’s to be seen if he will face the likes of former champion Stipe Miocic. To face and possibly defeat both Jones and Miocic in the same year would be impressive on any resume.
“For real, for real. This is going to put my resume the high level. It will be crazy to have both of these guys and winning. If it’s possible to have, if I win this Saturday against Jon Jones, to have Stipe in Paris,” he said.
“And to have a big win (with) my crowd. Yeah. Probably will be crazy and be my (one of my) better years.”
