Despite a loss on the Contender Series last year, Shannon Ross was jumping straight to the UFC, starting with his UFC 284 match-up with Kleydson Rodrigues.
Rodrigues, in his sophomore outing with the promotion, had missed weight for the bout, and was looking to bounce back from a loss in his own debut.
The best way to make up for a bad day at the scales? Come out and secure a big finish. Rodrigues did just that during the UFC 284 televised prelims, tearing through Ross like a buzzsaw.
In the first (and as it so happened, only) round Rodrigues started out right away with a lot of kicks, and cracked Ross with a left hook. Right after that, the Brazilian flyweight hurt Ross really bad with a body kick. Ross was slumped over and Rodrigues went off with a barrage of punches including more to the body as Ross crumbled to the mat and the ref stepped in. Easy work for the Brazilian, Rodrigues.
For Kleydson Rodrigues, it’s a little bit of redemption after missing weight and losing his octagon debut. Unfortunately, what would have almost certainly been a bonus-winning performance won’t be due to the flub at the scales.
