Well, this one is certainly odd.
Conor McGregor has mainly been in the news of late for starring in the (wholly unnecessary) remake of Road House, the Patrick Swayze classic, and because he dropped out of the USADA testing pool for reasons unknown.
Aside from that, McGregor hasn’t been heard from much these days, outside of the odd tweet and delete session, like that following UFC 280.
However, on Monday, “The Notorious” former UFC featherweight and lightweight champ posted what can only been looked at as a bizarre video to social media, using a monkey face filter.
“I told you I’d be back,” McGregor says, breathing heavily, before adding “wakey wakey.”
Is this a warning to the lightweight (or welterweight) division, with McGregor intending to announce his return to fighting? Or could he be returning to movie screens? Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is due for release in 2024, and is currently in production. McGregor would certainly make a decent villain with that voice and ape getup.
Regardless, the former champ has not been seen in action since breaking his leg during his trilogy fight with Dustin Poirier in July of 2021. He has been seen back in the gym, but no return time table has been announced for MMA’s biggest star.
