The tie-breaker in the career series between flyweights Deiveson Figueiredo and Brandon Moreno will take place at UFC 283 in Brazil this January.
As many had expected, champ Figueiredo (21-2-1) will face interim champ and longtime rival Moreno (20-6-2) at the PPV event in Rio on January 21, 2022. News of the booking was first reported by 3 Rounds Co-Host Rodrigo Del Campo Gonzalez.
Figueiredo would later confirm the booking on social media.
The “God of War” Figueiredo has fought his last three bouts against Moreno, making this his fourth consecutive contest against the Mexican flyweight. The pair’s first meeting, at UFC 256, ended in a majority draw; their second encounter saw Moreno submit then-champ Figueiredo to claim flyweight gold. One fight later, Figueiredo picked up a unanimous decision win over Moreno to win the belt back, leaving their series at 1-1-1.
With Figueiredo taking a bit of time off to heal up from injury, Moreno was booked into an interim title fight against Kai Kara-France at UFC 277. The 28-year old set up to finish with a body kick, cementing the fourth fight with Figueiredo and turning it into a title unification bout.
UFC 283 takes place at the Jeunesse Arena on January 21, 2022 and marks the promotion’s return to Rio de Janeiro for the first time since prior to the onset of the coronavirus pandemic. The following bouts have been reported for the event:
- Deiveson Figueiredo (c) vs. Brandon Moreno (ic) – for the UFC flyweight championship / title unification bout
