John Castaneda was looking for his third straight victory when he took on Daniel Santos in a 140lb catchweight fight at UFC Vegas 61 on Saturday.
For his part, Santos was looking to bounce back from a loss in his promotional debut earlier this year against Julio Arce.
After a shuffling of the deck due to Maxim Grishin vs. Philipe Lins being cancelled, Santos vs. Castaneda wound up the featured preliminary card fight in Las Vegas on Saturday.
In round one, Castaneda went after Santos landing multiple head kicks and knees to the head that would have put anybody else down. Santos was hurt for most of the round, but somehow continued to survive and even attack leaving Castaneda to wonder what he needed to do to finish the fight.
Round two was all Daniel Santos, as he went after Castaneda with his own high kick attacks, knees, and combinations. Castaneda seemed to gas out halfway through the round and began to take a lot of damage resulting from the pressure attack from Santos. A knee to the head from Santos finally dropped Castaneda and ended the fight.
Following the win, Santos credited his work with famous Brazilian team Chute Boxe for the win, after UFC analyst Paul Felder compared the bantamweight to teammate Charles “Do Bronx” Oliveira.
Official Result: Daniel Santos def. John Castaneda by KO, Round 2, 4:28
