Daniel Rodriguez is reaping the benefits of his willingness to fight anyone at UFC 279 earlier this month.
Rodriguez had been booked into a fight with Kevin Holland at the PPV event just a few weeks ago. But with Khamzat Chimaev’s weight miss creating chaos, “D-Rod” wound up facing Li Jingliang instead — and came away with the split decision win.
Now, Rodriguez (17-2) is being paired up with Neil Magny (26-9) for a short turnaround fight at UFC Vegas 62 on October 15, 2022. News of the match-up was first reported by MMA Island. Rodriguez later confirmed the booking on his Instagram story, adding “I just don’t give a f*ck.”
California’s Rodriguez has won four straight, including wins over Kevin Lee and Mike Perry in addition to the Jingliang victory. A former champ in regional outfit SMASH Global, the 35-year old debuted in the UFC two years ago with a Performance of the Night-winning victory over veteran Tim “The Dirty Bird” Means.
Magny will enter the pair’s UFC Vegas 62 match-up looking to shake off a loss to Shavkat Rakhmonov back in June, which saw him submitted via guillotine. Prior to that, Magny had picked up decision wins over Geoff Neal and Max Griffin.
Rodriguez is currently ranked #14 in the welterweight division, with Magny sitting one spot ahead of him at #13 in the UFC’s official rankings.
UFC Vegas 62 will take place on October 15, 2022 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada, with Alexa Grasso vs. Viviane Araujo expected to headline the card. The following bouts have been reported for the event to date:
