Kicking off the UFC Vegas 60 card on Saturday were lightweights Nikolas Motta and Cameron VanCamp.
Both men were coming in off high-profile losses, Motta to Jim Miller, and VanCamp to Andre Fialho.
There was plenty of feeling out and some back-and-forth early in the card opener, with VanCamp having an obvious height and reach advantage. It took a while for VanCamp to utilize that reach and get his jab going, however, while Motta found some success with kicks. In the second half of the frame, Motta landed a solid left hook that appeared to catch VanCamp, who immediately went into defensive mode and backpedaled. Moments later and overhand right fanned for Motta, but the follow-up left hook was there again.
VanCamp, who had been holding his chin a bit high all fight, was caught right on the button and went down. Motta jumped on his fallen foe with some additional strikes, and the ref was soon coming in for the save. The first-round TKO gets Nikolas Motta back in the win column, after coming up short in a very difficult promotional debut against veteran Jim Miller earlier this year.

“I’ve been so broke for 10 years,” Motta said after the fight, noting he’d lived in about 30 different houses, moving around. “If I could get like 50K, that would change my life” he said, calling for a Performance bonus.
Official Result: Nikolas Motta def. Cameron VanCamp by TKO, Round 1, 3:49
