San Diego, CA — After three fights at the UFC Apex, which he admittedly loves, David Onama is looking forward to UFC San Diego — visiting a new city, where the weather has been “perfect,” he noted during Wednesday’s media day.
Admittedly, featherweight Onama does like hearing his corner at the sparsely populated Apex. “The light crowd, you can kind of hear your cornerman, your coaches. I kind of like that one a little bit better; I can hear more clear. When I get the fans, you really can’t hear much because the fans are going crazy.”
“I enjoy the Apex, and with the fans too,” added Onama, speaking to media outlets including Cageside Press.
Onama (10-1) returns against Nate Landwehr on Saturday, and hasn’t been overly impressed with his opponent. “I feel like I’m better than this guy everywhere. I’m very well-rounded, I’m just better than him,” Onama exclaimed. “It’s going to be a tough fight for him, I’m going to be one of his toughest opponents. I’m excited for it.”
The pair were supposed to have fought once previously, which made this latest training camp a familiar one for David Onama. “I already knew about Nate, so when I got the fight offered, I wasn’t surprised, because I’d already studied everything about Nate. It was nothing new to me, we got just right back to doing us, and back to training. Nothing changed.”
He also enters the fight with a new UFC contract in hand. “I’m very happy with the deal. I’m happy with it; everything I’ve put in in the gym, and just winning the fights — hard work is finally starting to pay off,” he noted. “I’m loving the new deal, I’m very excited, and I can’t wait to set up the fourth one.”
