Canadian featherweight Hakeem Dawodu has his next assignment set.
Dawodu (13-2-1) will face “Juicy J,” a.k.a. Julian Erosa (27-9), at UFC 279 on September 10, 2022. Both fighters confirmed the bookings on their Instagram Story following an initial report by MMA Junkie.
Calgary’s Dawodu, who entered the UFC in 2018 after going undefeated through eight fights in the WSOF, is 6-2 inside the octagon to date. “Mean” Hakeem will enter September’s contest off a win against TUF winner Mike Trizano, which saw him bounce back from a loss Movsar Evloev last year.
After losing his debut in the UFC, Dawodu had won five straight prior to the defeat against Evloev.
Erosa has won two straight, and won Fight of the Night honors alongside Steven “Ocho” Peterson in his last fight — but missed out on the bonus money due to missing weight. His fight prior to that was held at a 150 pound catchweight, meaning it’s been over a year since Erosa actually fought at 145 pounds.
UFC 279 is expected to be held at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, with Nate Diaz vs. Khamzat Chimaev headlining. The following bouts have been reported for the event:
- Khamzat Chimaev vs. Nate Diaz
- Shamil Abdurakhimov vs. Jailton Almeida
- Norma Dumont vs. Danyelle Wolf
- Irene Aldana vs. Macy Chiasson
- Denis Tiuliulin vs. Jamie Pickett
