Roman Faraldo will be looking to play spoiler against hometown fighter Luis Iniguez at Bellator 283, and he’s not expecting a long night.
“I don’t see it getting out of the first round, to be honest,” Faraldo (7-0) predicted during Wednesday’s Bellator 283 media day, later adding that while he’d like to get some more cage time, “I just don’t think it’s going to happen.”
Iniquez is no slouch, coming into the fight with a 5-1 record, but what American Top Team’s Faraldo has been looking for is a top 10 opponent. Despite that desire going unfulfilled, he’s not overly upset.
“Yeah, no, I understand it’s a business, I’m still proving myself here. So I’m not too mad about it,” Faraldo said. “If you want me to go beat up a dude, I’m going go beat up a dude, whether it’s top ten or not. But I know eventually, they’re not going to be able to deny me. So just go do my job, and work my way up.”
It will get harder and harder to deny him if he keeps winning. Faraldo’s seven wins have all been by KO/TKO. That, he believes, has led to some fighters avoiding him.
“Definitely. I had a few roster guys duck me,” Faraldo stated. “I know these guys really don’t want to fight. They might call themselves real fighters, but they’re not. They’re here for the show, they like the title of being a fighter, but when it comes down to doing the job, they find excuses. I know they’re ducking, I know what I present is a threat, and it’s just part of the game. When you’re the best at what you do, a lot of people really don’t want to, I guess, step up.”
