Las Vegas, NV — Bantamweight Pedro Munhoz has the same goal as always heading into UFC 276.
“My main goal is to be the best fighter I can be, always trying to prove myself,” Munhoz (19-7, 1NC) said ahead of his UFC 276 appointment with Sean O’Malley. “And my fights speak [for] themselves.”
Munhoz, looking to snap a two-fight skid this Saturday, has a team mindset when it comes to fighting. That’s something he underscored during Wednesday’s UFC 276 media day, speaking to members of the media including Cageside Press.
“When I’m not here fighting, I’m in the gym, working my butt off, helping training partners that have a fight coming up,” he explained. “So take the focus off of me a little bit and try to help somebody else. So once I get a fight, it’s not about me, it’s about the strategy and the mindset.”
The O’Malley question came next. It’s the same question that is seemingly asked about Sean O’Malley every time he fights: is he legit. Is there more to O’Malley than just, say, smoke and mirrors (emphasis on the smoke, if you will)?
Munhoz, who has shared the cage with Dominick Cruz, Jose Aldo, Frankie Edgar, and Cody Garbrandt, all former UFC champions, believes O’Malley is for real.
“I believe that he’s legit. People asked me the same question before, and my answer remains the same. I think he’s legit,” Munhoz opined. “He won a lot of the fights, he’s tall, long, fights both stances and has a lot of skills. I’m definitely going to be a great test for him, and myself, I think I can stop him within three rounds for sure.”
We’ll find out if the latter is true shortly.
