A strawweight scrap between former Invicta FC champ Angela Hill and ex-LFA champion Lupita Godinez will take place this October.
Hill (13-12) will face Godinez (8-2) as part of the UFC’s October 15, 2022 Fight Night event. The card does not yet have a venue, location, or broadcast plan officially announced as of yet.
MMA Junkie was first to report news of the pairing, which Godinez later confirmed on social media.
The fight is the first to be reported for the event, which comes in a busy stretch for the promotion— with UFC 281 already announced for October 22 in Abu Dhabi, either September or October (the more likely scenario) is expected to get an extra numbered card.
Hill, who is on her second stint with the UFC, and who has also been moonlighting as a podcast host and analyst, has lost her last three fights inside the octagon. “Overkill” has not been taking the easy road, however, as those match-ups have come against Tecia Torres, Amanda Lemos, and fellow former Invicta FC champ Virna Jandiroba.
The Lemos fight results in a Fight of the Night bonus. Hill also holds one of the UFC’s activity records, having recorded six fights in under 12 months from 2019 to 2020.
Godinez, who won gold in Canada’s BTC as well as LFA, is also in the UFC record books. “Loopy” captured two records in her debut year, with the fastest turnaround in modern UFC history at seven days, and the shortest time between three fights, 42 days.
The Mexican, fighting out of Canada, has won two straight, against Loma Lookboonmee and Ariane Carnelossi.
