Jose Johnson gets a second shot on Dana White’s Contender Series.
Multiple sources have confirmed to Cageside Press that Johnson will fight Jack Cartwright on week four of Dana White’s Contender Series, set to take place on August 16. MMA Junkie reported Johnson’s inclusion in the series, while Cartwright posted on social media in May that he would take part in the upcoming sixth season.
Johnson (14-7) appeared on season four of Dana White’s Contender Series but would lose a unanimous decision to contract winner Ronnie Lawrence. He would again fight in front of the UFC president in early 2021 but would lose to Mana Martinez. The 27-year-old would rebound by being the first fighter to defeat Mo Miller later in 2021, in front of Dana White again, and then in his last outing, he knocked out Dulani Perry in 12 seconds to punch his ticket back to the show.
Cartwright (10-0) is the Cage Warriors defending bantamweight champion. The 27-year-old prospect has defended his title three times after winning the title in his Cage Warriors debut in a four-man tournament. Cartwright has only gone to the judge’s scorecards once in his ten wins, finishing all but one in the first round.
Season six of Dana White’s Contender Series will kick off July 26 from the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.
Episode four of DWCS 2022 reportedly looks like this:
- Esteban Ribovics vs. Thomas Paull
- Jose Johnson vs. Jack Cartwright
- Claudio Ribeiro vs. Ivan Valenzuela
- Hailey Cowan vs. Claudia Leite
- Ahmad Hassanzada vs. Nazim Sadykhov
