A promotional newcomer, and a flyweight entering just his fifth UFC fight were among the bonus winners at UFC Vegas 56 on Saturday.
The Fight Night card saw the promotion return to the Apex in Las Vegas after a rare week off. And while heavyweight action in the main event ended in an explosive knockout, it was a fighter at the other end of the weight spectrum who picked up an extra $50,000 in bonus money.
That would be flyweight Ode Osbourne, who won one of two Performance of the Night bonuses awarded at UFC Vegas 56. Osbourne (11-4, 1NC), who has fought as heavy as featherweight thus far in his MMA career, proved his knockout power translated to flyweight when he starched Zarrukh Adashev just over a minute into the opening round of their main card fight.
The other Performance of the Night bonus at UFC Vegas 56 was awarded to Karine Silva. Making her promotional debut, the Contender Series alum submitted fellow Brazilian Poliana Botelho with a D’arce choke in the opening round.
Fight of the Night at UFC Vegas 56, meanwhile, went to TUF 27 winner Mike Trizano and promotional newcomer Lucas Almeida. After coming up short on the Contender Series, Almeida bounced back on the regional scene, then turned that into an opportunity against the TUF champ — capitalizing with a third-round TKO.
All four bonus-winning fighters will pocket an extra $50,000 for their efforts.
