A couple of hard-hitting heavyweights threw down at UFC Vegas 55, as Parker Porter, something of a career underdog, was in a familiar position against Brazil’s Jailton Almeida.
There would be no upset for Porter on Saturday in Las Vegas, however.
Almeida immediately changed levels into a double leg attempt, but Parker stayed up initially, with the Brazilian driving him into the fence. It wasn’t long, however, before Almeida hoisted him up and dropped him on his back. Almeida went to work from half-guard; Parker would up getting to the fence, but couldn’t do much else other than tie Jailton up. Almedia fired a few punches, finally opening up near the midway mark of the round.
Yet while the path to victory was there for Almeida, Parker worked on a kimura from bottom, stalling him. Once that was dealt with, Almeida went back to firing left hands; Porter put a guillotine in place just to try to regain his feet, but he couldn’t make it up. Instead, he wound up on his back again, and in the final minute, Almeida moved to mount. He transitioned to the back, got an arm under the neck, and forced the tap!
The submission win leaves Almeida with eleven straight victories. He’s 2-0 to start his UFC career.
Official Result: Jailton Almeida def. Parker Porter by submission (rear-naked choke), Round 1, 4:35
