The strawweight title fight between Emily Ducote and former atomweight Queen Alesha Zappitella is official for Invicta FC 47.
On Tuesday, all 14 fighters due to compete on the Invicta FC 47 card this Wednesday, May 11 hit the scales, with all fighters making weight. The card includes the return of Courtney King, who memorably took on Kayla Harrison during the Olympian’s lone Invicta FC fight, and features atomweight standouts Lindsey VanZandt and Jillian “Lionheart” DeCoursey facing off.
It’s the move to strawweight by Zappitella, to take on champ Ducote that will draw the most eyeballs however. Ducote (10-6), a former Bellator MMA flyweight title challenger, won the belt in her last fight, stunning UFC alum Danielle Taylor with a highlight reel head kick. The knockout finish was in the running for Knockout of the Year in 2021.
Zappitella (9-3, 1NC) is looking to claim gold in a second weight class, after losing her 105 pound title last time out. The fight saw the American lose a decision to Brazil’s Jessica Delboni, with that pair’s career series tied 1-1.
