An ACL injury suffered by Casey O’Neill has opened the door for Maycee Barber at UFC 276.
With O’Neill out, having revealed a fully torn ACL, it’s now Barber (10-2) who will face Jessica Eye (15-10, 1NC) this July. BJPenn.com was first to report news of the new booking. Barber subsequently confirmed the match-up on her Instagram Story.
Just a week ago, Barber was seen winning a unanimous decision against Montana De La Rosa at UFC Vegas 52. The win, her second straight, has got her back on track, after “The Future” suffered back-to-back losses at the hands of Roxanne Modafferi and Alexa Grasso.
Jessica Eye, meanwhile, finds herself in a must win situation this summer. A former UFC women’s flyweight title challenger, Eye is just 1-3 since lose her bid for gold care of a Valentina Shevchenko head kick at UFC 238. She’s lost her last three fights, going the distance in all there but coming up short against Cynthia Calvillo, Joanne Wood, and most recently Jennifer Maia.
“Evil” Eye was supposed to return to action in March against Manon Fiorot, but was pulled from the bout due to injury. If and when she makes it to the cage against Barber, it will have been roughly a year since she last competed.
UFC 276 is set to take place on July 2, 2022 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The following bouts have been report for the event, which caps off this year’s International Fight Week:
- Miesha Tate vs. Lauren Murphy
- Jessica Eye vs. Maycee Barber
- Brad Tavares vs. Dricus du Plessis
- Jessica-Rose Clark vs. Julija Stoliarenko
- Uriah Hall vs. André Muniz
