Maycee Barber is looking to break and finish her opponent on Saturday.
Barber vs. Montana De La Rosa is finally going down. The pair of flyweights were originally scheduled for UFC 269 in December, but by the time the fight card rolled around, they both were injured and replaced.
Barber (9-2) got right back into fight camp as soon as she was cleared, knowing she would fight De La Rosa.
“I feel like I’ve been getting ready for her for like, six, seven months. But on the flip side, it has been really good to just finally have a camp and be back fighting,” Barber told the media during this week’s UFC Vegas 52 media day. “As soon as I got hurt, I remember I looked at Danny [Castillo], and I was like, ‘this is not supposed to happen. Like this is not supposed to be going on right now. I’m supposed to be fighting in December, and I’m supposed to stay consistent.’ So for me, to be able to fight finally is what’s the most important but also being able to have such a great opponent to get finish against. I’m really excited.”
De La Rosa has yet to be finished in the UFC through eight fights; however, Barber thinks she can be broken really easily and plans on being the one to finish her. Barber finished her first three opponents and is looking to add De La Rosa to her resume.
“I feel like she can easily be broken. You know, she doesn’t like to get hit, and that’s exactly what we’re gonna do. We’re gonna hit her and we’re gonna break her,” Barber said.
